Android 17 now rolling out: over 80 phone models getting update today

Xiaomi has finally joined the Android 17 update wave. After weeks in which Samsung, Google Pixel and Oppo were already offering the new version of Google's operating system to their users, the Chinese manufacturer has begun distributing a stable beta version of Android 17 on its latest flagship models. It is the step needed for adoption of this system to reach an already significant figure: more than 80 mobile phone models are already receiving or will soon receive this update.

Xiaomi enters the race: Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra will be the first

According to hipertextual.com, Xiaomi is one of the last major manufacturers to launch a user-ready version of Android 17 beyond internal testing. The first to receive the update will be the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which are already downloading the stable beta version in China.

This beta phase allows any user who owns these phones to voluntarily download and install Android 17, with the caveat that it is still a development version. The release is significant because it marks the moment when Xiaomi joins a movement that, just one month since the official announcement of Android 17, already counts dozens of manufacturers.

Global expansion in the coming weeks

For now, the update is coming through Xiaomi's Chinese branch, but all signs point to the company soon expanding distribution to the international global version. In the coming weeks, it is likely that other models from the brand will also begin receiving Android 17, including devices from the Redmi and Poco lines, which are hugely popular in the Spanish and European markets.

This phased update strategy is typical of Xiaomi: first the flagship models, then mid-range, and finally entry-level. For Spanish users, this means that if you have a Xiaomi from one or two years ago, you will likely receive Android 17 in the coming months.

What's new with Android 17 on Xiaomi

Xiaomi phones that receive this update will enjoy all the improvements that Google presented with Android 17. Among the most notable are app bubbles, which allow you to run apps in floating windows, and significant changes in privacy and security that strengthen user control over their data.

Google has emphasised in this version improved security and granular permission control. Android 17 is, in essence, an update that seeks to consolidate the foundations of previous versions with refinements that are noticeable day-to-day: better battery management, optimisations in third-party apps and a slightly improved interface.

Android 17 adoption is accelerating

Just a month ago Google officially announced Android 17, and it is already present on more than 80 phone models from different brands. This speed of adoption reflects how important software updates have become in the industry. Manufacturers know that their users expect to receive the latest version without excessive delays.

With Xiaomi's addition, Android 17 adoption continues to gain momentum. If you have a phone from a major brand, whether Samsung, Google Pixel, Oppo or Xiaomi, it is very likely that the update is already on its way or will arrive in the coming days. Will you install it as soon as it becomes available on your device?
