Joan García is not afraid to speak his mind. The Barcelona goalkeeper, relaxing these days at the Soccerland Catalunya campus in Tordera, where he shares experiences with dozens of children who see him as an idol, has made clear what his blue-and-garnet obsession is for next season: winning the Champions League. An ambitious objective, but justified for someone who already holds a world title with the Spanish national team despite not having set foot on the pitch in Qatar.

"The Champions League is the ultimate trophy"

According to mundodeportivo.com, García has been direct in his statements: "The hope is to win it. Last year we won the League and the Supercopa. Yes, my objective is to win the Champions League. At club level, it is the ultimate trophy". But the Barcelona goalkeeper also warns about the dangers of obsession. "You shouldn't become obsessed, it's not good either. When things don't work out, the negative effect is huge," he stresses with caution, although he acknowledges that the team is "capable and we are confident we can achieve it".

It is a statement of intent from a goalkeeper who feels comfortable in his role, but who maintains limitless personal demands. "I want to be the best in everything, to keep training and to keep listening to professionals," he says about his individual objectives.

Confidence in Deco and restraint over Julián Álvarez

Although the transfer market is buzzing with Julián Álvarez's name on the Barcelona agenda, García has preferred not to speculate. "It doesn't depend on us. I trust a lot in the work of Deco, the sporting director. He is doing a good job and building a squad," he comments without elaborating on the Argentine striker.

What he does make clear is that he refuses to be distracted by rumours: "I am where I want to be, without these headaches. What I want is to prepare well because it will be a beautiful season".

Torres stays, Adeyemi and Gordon impress him

Finally, García also had words for Joan Laporta following the health scare experienced by the Barcelona president. "I saw him yesterday, I didn't know.
